Des Moines Register: They went to the Iowa Capitol to lobby for better protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth. The way they were treated there, they say, is proof that the state has a long way to go. A lawsuit filed this month against the state and five Iowa State Patrol troopers alleges the officers violated the rights of about 150 LGBTQ students and their chaperones when they evicted them from the Capitol on March 12, 2020. The group’s visit was cut short after a number of transgender and nonbinary students attempted to use the restrooms.
