Lift IOWA: Events to note in March

March 1: Women’s Golf Summit
The Iowa Golf Council is hosting two golf summits in early March. The inaugural Women’s Golf Summit will be held the afternoon of March 1, while the fourth annual Iowa Golf Summit will be held March 2. The general theme for both events is “Bringing People to the Game.” The Women’s Golf Summit will include three panel discussions, networking and lessons from a PGA professional. There will be a focus on bringing more women to the game, both as players and also shedding light on entry into golf as a career.

March 3: On Board: The Basics of Being an Effective Board Member
This interactive session is designed to introduce participants to the roles of nonprofits and their boards and empower you to map out a meaningful plan for your terms. Through video, storytelling and hands-on workbook exercises, we will explore the dimensions of commitment, governance and fiduciary duties.
When: Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, 3-5 p.m.

March 4: Iowa Women’s Conference
About: The Iowa Women’s Conference (WOCO) is a first-of-its-kind event in Des Moines focused on educational, inspirational and motivational sessions that touch all aspects of women’s lives. Keynote speakers are Randi Zuckerberg and Bethenny Frankel, and there will be at least 17 breakout sessions to choose from with topics like body confidence, the power of choice in leadership, the mental load of the working mom, entrepreneurship, harnessing your creativity, and health and wellness. A portion of proceeds will benefit Dorothy’s House.

March 13: LEAP 2020 kickoff
The Des Moines Downtown Chamber of Commerce will host the kickoff of 2020’s Leadership Education and Advancement Pipeline (LEAP) series. The series this year runs from March through October. The mission of LEAP is to build a community that empowers and motivates women by helping them to reach their fullest potential. Each program provides skill-building, challenging concepts, inspiration and networking time. The program is open to men and women.

March 25: The Power of Persistence
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment. Explore the history and challenges of achieving this right — who was involved, who was left behind and what we have learned. This event is hosted by the Chrysalis Foundation and features Rep. Ruth Ann Gaines and Dr. Karen Leroux.
