Des Moines Register: After almost four years, the Des Moines metro loses one of its few Filipino restaurants. Lola’s Fine Kitchen in Ankeny closes on July 28. The family-owned restaurant in Ankeny’s Prairie Trail District serves Pakistani and Filipino dishes in a fast-casual setting. Carmelita Shah, a retired physician, and her children Hannah Elliott and Taufeek Shah run the restaurant. Elliott announced the closing on Facebook. “What to say! It has been an awesome ride, Ankeny,” she wrote, noting the triumphs through the pandemic and hurdles of operating. “Little did we know that 2022 would keep slamming us with new challenges,” she wrote. “I feel like I have run a marathon and just as I crossed the finish line they told me keep going and do another…but I am gassed and miss my family.”
