Global Greens aims to provide Iowans healthy, sustainable food while supporting small, entrepreneurial refugee farmers. For $36 per box, subscribers receive eight to 10 locally grown Iowa produce items, along with occasional treats from the farmers’ home countries. Global Greens CSA has 32 farmers participating in the program and offers 400 total subscriptions, a news release said. A portion of CSA profits, along with additional donations, is used to support LSI’s Elder Food program, a food pantry dedicated to helping food-insecure elder refugees. “LSI’s Global Greens CSA supports both the health of our local communities and the success of refugee farmers,” Mark Bequeaith, CSA program coordinator, said in a prepared statement. “This program demonstrates the power of food to create connections, empower individuals, and strengthen communities.”
