October ended with a treat for the majority of companies that make up the Business Record’s Iowa Index, with 15 of the 23 state-based public companies posting gains for the month. 

The index, an unweighted average price of those companies, posted an overall increase of 1.02 percent from September. On a year-over-year basis, the index is up 23.3 percent.

Armstrong-based Art’s Way Manufacturing Co. led the way in October, with its stock price increasing 40 cents per share, or 17.3 percent, the only double-digit gainer last month. In an October-to-October comparison, the manufacturer of agricultural products is down 10 percent.

Winnebago Industries Inc. of Forest City continued to surge in October, with its stock gaining 9.8 percent. Compared with a year ago, Winnebago stock has increased nearly 74 percent — $20.90 per share.
