Des Moines-based Mercy College of Health Sciences is starting a new Master of Science in Nursing – Education degree in the fall. As the demand for skilled, compassionate nurses continues to rise, so does the need for educators, the college said in a news release. The new degree will be the second master’s degree offered by Mercy College. It launched the Master of Science in Nursing – Organizational and Systems Leadership degree in 2022. “Nurse educators are among the most critical members of the health care team,” Mercy College Interim Dean of Nursing Jane DeGooyer said in the release. “Our faculty includes experienced nurses who have spent significant time in practice. They now choose to invest their time and expertise in preparing the next generation of nurses.” Curriculum for the new degree will share seven foundational nursing core courses with the existing master’s program. Students in the education track will also take a series of courses focused on instructional design, assessment, curriculum development and clinical teaching.
