As Mercy Medical Center completes work on its newest medical office building, two other clinic projects are taking shape to the west.

Mercy’s Capitol Medical Office Building No. 2 opens today (April 26) at 1350 Des Moines St. The 17,300-square-foot building will be home to Mercy Capitol Internal Medicine, Mercy East Village Family Practice and a new urgent care clinic.

The new facility will provide patients with a street-side entrance, room for physician offices and clinical services and more spacious patient waiting areas and examination rooms, Mercy officials said. The urgent care clinic will provide East Side residents access to emergency services that had been provided by Mercy Capitol hospital, which closed in September.

The clinic move and expansions will add more than 20 positions to support the new urgent care clinic, said Traci McBee, a spokeswoman for Mercy Clinics Inc.

To the west, Mercy Clinics has begun renovation of its Urbandale clinic at 6200 Aurora Ave., near Merle Hay Mall. The renovation will add a street-side entry with a carport to make the clinic more accessible to patients, along with a new sign to improve visibility. Inside, the clinic will have five additional examination rooms as well as an injection room and an expanded laboratory. That project is expected to be completed in May.

Over in Waukee, Mercy Clinics has a new clinic building under construction at the northwest corner of the intersection of Hickman Road and Warrior Lane in the Greenway Park development. Scheduled to open in August, the 14,000-square-foot building will include a family practice clinic and physical therapy facilities.

“We also continue to plan for a second Ankeny location in the Prairie Trail development,” McBee said. “A couple other clinics will either move to new locations or undergo remodeling to accommodate growth, but plans have not been finalized or announced just yet.”
