Founded in 2014, Gender Fair uses metrics from the United Nations Women Empowerment Principles and rates companies on a 100-point index by assessing five areas: leadership and opportunity, employee policies, advertising and communications, diversity reporting, and social responsibility. To be eligible for certification, a company must achieve at least 70 points. “Meredith is deeply committed to advancing gender equality across all segments of our business, in our workforce and in our communities,” Dina Nathanson, senior vice president of human resources at Meredith, said. “We’re proud to be recognized for our leadership and advocacy, and we will continue to prioritize our initiatives to become a more diverse, equitable and inclusive organization.” According to a news release from Meredith, women make up 60% of all leaders at the company and 44% of the board. Meredith offers employees 12 weeks of paid time off for the birth or adoption of a child. Other companies recognized by Gender Fair include Johnson & Johnson, Mastercard, Microsoft, Kellogg’s and Eli Lilly. Fewer than 10% of Fortune 500 companies are considered to be gender fair.
