Metronet completes fiber-optic build in Des Moines

The city now has access to symmetrical, multigigabit internet speeds, with residential options up to five gigabits per second and business speeds up to 10 gigabits per second. According to a news release, Metronet will expand the network as needed through smaller projects to align with growth throughout Des Moines. Metronet has also built fiber-optic networks across Central Iowa in Ankeny, Altoona, Carlisle, Clive, Grimes, Johnston, Norwalk, Pleasant Hill, Saylorville, Urbandale, Waukee, West Des Moines and Windsor Heights, totaling $130 million in infrastructure. Metronet aims to make a long-term investment in the Des Moines community by engaging with businesses and sponsoring local organizations, including the Iowa Wild, Iowa Cubs, Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa, and Meals from the Heartland, the release said.
