Microsoft lags other tech companies in gender diversity
Microsoft Corp. last month released a report on the diversity of its workforce, and according to Fortune magazine, the company lags in gender diversity — both in overall workforce and in leadership.
Fortune in August compared the statistics of large tech companies, based on a federally required EEO-1 form.
Under the Civil Rights Act of 1964, every company is required to file the form, which lists employment data by race/ethnicity, gender and job category. The federal government is prohibited from making any of the compliance surveys public, but several tech firms have released the information after criticism about their lack of diversity.
Microsoft falls among the firms with the least amount of diversity in gender — with 29 percent of its workforce being female and just 17 percent of it leadership team being female.
Indiegogo Inc., eBay Inc. and LinkedIn Inc. are closer to parity in workforce, with 45 percent, 40 percent and 39 percent women, respectively.
EBay, Hewlett-Packard Co. and Apple Inc. tied for first in female leadership. with 28 percent of their executive teams being women.
