Midwest manufacturing down in September

Manufacturing activity declined in September in the Midwest, according to an index compiled by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. The index dropped 0.4 percent to a seasonally adjusted level of 93.4. Industrial output in the region and the nation increased in September from a year ago, with the Midwest index gaining 8.5 percent and the national index 3.5 percent.
