Midwest manufacturing posted increases in August and July

A measure of manufacturing activity in the Midwest increased 0.6 percent last month and 0.3 percent in July.

Regional output rose 7.6 percent in August from a year earlier, the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank said in a news release about its Midwest manufacturing index.

National output increased 4.2 percent from August 2010. The regional machinery, automobile and steel sectors all moved up, the Chicago Fed said.
