Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller has opened a civil investigation into foreclosure practices at Ally Financial Inc., formerly GMAC Mortgage. On Sept. 20, the company announced that it ordered brokers in Iowa and 22 other states to halt all foreclosure activity and to suspend sales of properties on which it had already foreclosed. Miller’s office has requested information from Ally pertaining to its past and present foreclosure practices, and seeks more information about its Iowa foreclosure cases. Iowans who are now under foreclosure by Ally or believe the company handled their now-completed foreclosure proceedings may contact the Consumer Protection Division at 281-5926 or by e-mail at consumer@iowa.gov.
