After an eight-month hiatus, Jim Miller will return to the Historic Valley Junction Foundation (HVJF) as its executive director this Monday (June 16).

Miller left HVJF last fall to take a newly created position of program consultant for the Iowa Department of Economic Development’s Main Street Iowa division. Roger Cox replaced Miller on Nov. 1, but then resigned in early May.

“I enjoyed the work I did there,” Miller said.

But after working with other Main Street Iowa communities, Miller believes he can help do a lot more for Valley Junction (a Main Street Iowa community for 21 years). Ideas include ramping up business development efforts, improving events and conducting more market analysis of why people are visiting the district.

The Urban Neighborhood Main Street District initiative Miller helped start at the Iowa Department of Economic Development will continue, and someone will fill his position, he said.

“I truly have enjoyed what I’ve done here at Main Street, but at the same time, I like the day-to-day action on the street, very quick decision making and you’re in the middle of it every day and I think that’s what I do well in.”
