More than $7.1 million in federal assistance has been approved for Iowans, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced this week. FEMA individually approved more than $3.1 million in individual assistance grants for more than 900 households, and the Small Business Administration approved more than $4 million in disaster loans for homeowners, renters and small businesses. Those in Benton, Boone, Cedar, Jasper, Linn, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Scott, Story and Tama counties have until Oct. 19 to register for disaster assistance. A Disaster Recovery Center opened in Linn County at the Veterans Memorial Stadium parking lot from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to give survivors options to submit documents for disaster assistance applications; the Virtual Disaster Loan Outreach Center is also available at 916-735-1500, or by contacting FOCWAssistance@sba.gov.
