Citigroup quietly scales back in consumer banking
Reuters: Citigroup Inc. has been quietly scaling back its consumer banking presence in some of the world’s major cities, pulling out from markets where it does not have enough branches to be competitive. In 2014, Citi executives decided to focus on 100 cities where the company has the greatest scale and potential. In the United States, it is now focused on six cities, down from 14.
Get ready for this year’s Y2K
CNNMoney: Last week, the International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service declared that we’re all living about a second ahead of where we should be — the Earth’s rotation has slowed, and we’ll need an extra second for the planet to catch up. The leap second will be added on June 30. The problem is that the computer software controlling much of the Internet doesn’t play nicely with leap seconds.
Congress is getting richer
CNNMoney: The median net worth of federal lawmakers was just over $1 million in 2013, or 18 times the wealth of the typical American household, according to new research released Monday by the Center for Responsive Politics. While Americans’ median wealth is down 43 percent since 2007, Congress members’ net worth has jumped 28 percent.
