266 wordsAll Latest News, Economic DevelopmentThe Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is seeking public input on safety projects it should pursue for grant funding, and has scheduled opportunities for the public to weigh in.
The public can give their feedback on their preferred projects and measures that can be taken to support safety in crash-prone areas in the metro as identified in the region’s nearly complete Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, officials with the MPO said in a news release.
“We are working to improve the daily lives of the public with this plan,” Mark Holm, Polk County supervisor and MPO chair, said in the release. “Most of us use the transportation system nearly every day — whether you’re on foot, in a vehicle, or riding a bike or bus. We want to hear from the public as the region continues working to make our daily mobility as safe as possible.”
Both in-person and virtual opportunities are available to provide input.
An open house is scheduled for 4-6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, at the MPO office at 420 Watson Powell Jr. Way, Suite 200, in Des Moines. It will include a presentation on the draft Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, which will be used to identify investments and changes to help eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2045.
An online option is also available to observe the presentation and ask questions. To attend, use the meeting ID 851 7333 2173 and the passcode 994670.
A recording of the presentation will be published to the project website with an online survey for additional public input. The survey will remain open through Sunday, March 16.
