The Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization has opened the public comment and feedback period for its 25-year transportation plan, “Mobilizing Tomorrow.” The MPO updates the plan every five years to address changing transportation needs and priorities of the Des Moines region, according to a news release. The latest update will set the region’s transportation goals through 2050. “Our transportation system sets the tone for our daily lives,” Mark Holm, Ankeny mayor and chair of the Des Moines Area MPO, said in the release. “So it’s important that we think strategically and long-term, and that’s what we aim to do with the long-range transportation plan.” The long-range transportation plan document is available for public review at dmampo.org/mobilizing-tomorrow. Public comment is open through Oct. 23. The MPO will also host a public feedback meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 9 at the MPO office, 420 Watson Powell, Jr. Way, Suite 200, Des Moines. According to the release, the MPO plans a vote on final adoption of the plan during its Policy Committee meeting on Nov. 21.
