The facility will be called the Reichardt Community Recreation Center; the center’s basketball court and gymnasium will be called the Patty and Jim Cownie Family Courts and Gymnasium. Private donations totaling $3.57 million have been raised for the facility, which will replace the John R. Grubb Community YMCA at 1611 11th St. The donation money “gets us halfway in our attempts to [raise] the funding and we’ve got commitments beyond that,” City Manager Scott Sanders said at Monday’s meeting. Information about additional donations for the $18 million project is expected to be released in the coming weeks. To read previous coverage, click here.
