Greater Des Moines has hosted several national events during June in addition to several annual events. The region has seen the Principal Charity Classic, the World Pork Expo, Ironman 70.3, and the NASCAR Cup Series so far this month, Des Moines’ convention and visitors bureau Catch Des Moines said in a news release. The National Speech and Debate Tournament ends today, and the National Junior High Finals Rodeo runs from June 23-29. “To have the opportunity to host multiple citywide events in one month is huge,” Trina Flack, vice president of sales at Catch Des Moines, said in a prepared statement. “We have the facilities and capacity to bring in visitors from across the world and show them what’s so special about Iowa.” The events are a “boost” for the local service industry, including hotels and restaurants, Catch Des Moines president and CEO Greg Edwards said in a prepared statement.
