A group formed to promote LGBTQ-owned businesses in Iowa has announced its official launch event scheduled for Wednesday in Des Moines. According to a news release, members of the newly created Iowa LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce will have access to a network of LGBTQ businesses across the state and become part of the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC). The Iowa LGBTQ Chamber will become the 77th affiliate of the national organization. The event will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Bubba, 200 10th St. in Des Moines. Iowa LGBTQ Chamber Chair Dan Jansen said in the release that the launch “marks a significant step forward in our journey toward a more diverse and equitable business landscape” in Iowa. “The Iowa LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce will serve to champion the economic interests of LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs and professionals while fostering an environment of acceptance, respect and growth, bringing together LGBTQ+-owned businesses, allies and corporate partners in an atmosphere of collaboration and support,” Jansen said. The NGLCC is the largest advocacy organization dedicated to expanding economic opportunities and advancements for LGBTQ people, and the exclusive certifying body for LGBTQ-owned businesses, the release says. According to its website, NGLCC has 1,803 certified LGBT businesses nationwide and 381 corporate partnerships. Brennan McNell, NGLCC senior director of corporate relations, and Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand are scheduled to attend Wednesday’s launch event.
