Nominations are now open for the 2023 Iowa Latino Hall of Fame through July 1. The Iowa Latino Hall of Fame was created by the Iowa Commission of Latino Affairs in 2017 with the goal of recognizing and celebrating the efforts of Latino leaders in the state. Each year the commission inducts up to three Latinos, plus a recipient of the Iowa Latinx Youth Leadership Award, a recipient of the Robert D. Ray Award for Equity and Justice, and a recipient of the Iowa LGBTQIA Leadership Award. Previous inductees include Elizabeth Bernal, Hector Avalos, Lilian Sanchez, Marlú Carolina Abarca and Joe Gonzales. The awards will be presented at the Iowa Latino Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Oct. 13 at the Des Moines Art Center. More information can be found on the Iowa Department of Human Rights website or by emailing Sonia Reyes at sonia.reyes@iowa.gov.
