Although philanthropist Richard Jacobson passed away in April, his legacy will continue this summer with the University of Iowa’s Jacobson Institute for Youth Entrepreneurship. The series of summer programs is designed to interest students in entrepreneurship. About 200 students will participate at sites in Des Moines, Iowa City, Marion and Cedar Rapids. In Des Moines, the Youth Entrepreneurship Academy will be held for middle school students June 20-24. The students will also sell the products they make during the program at the Valley Junction Farmers Market on Thursday, June 23. The Jacobson Institute will also host a pair of programs next week in Iowa City designed to help high school business teachers from across the state develop new ways of teaching entrepreneurialism to their students, as part of the STEM Innovator program. About 100 teachers and administrators will participate, said Dawn Bowlus, director of the Jacobson Institute.
