The state of Washington had the second-highest life expectancy rate, and California had the third-highest. Iowa was ranked 21st, with a life expectancy of 77.5, the data shows. From 2019 to 2020, life expectancy declined for all 50 states and Washington, D.C., according to the report. Southern states tended to have the lowest rates.
