Occasionally I tune in to a BBC news broadcast on Iowa PBS or Iowa Public Radio, and it always seems so much more in-depth than what we hear through U.S. network news. This article by the Pew Research Center about a recent survey it conducted shows that while Americans know a great deal about certain global leaders and institutions, many are less familiar with other topics. “Generally speaking, we see that international knowledge is related to attitudes about a host of issues,” the authors write. “People with higher levels of knowledge have more positive views of the European Union (EU), NATO and Israel. They also have more confidence in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and U.S. President Joe Biden.” Before you read the article, you can take the 12-question quiz so that you can see how you compare with the survey’s results.
