Number of residential building permits issued in first quarter up 41% from 2019

Nineteen Central Iowa communities have issued 636 building permits for single-family houses and townhomes during the first quarter of 2020, data collected by the Home Builders Association of Des Moines shows.

The number of permits issued is 41% more than were issued during the first three months of 2019.

The value of single-family permits totaled more than $148 million. The Iowa division of home construction company D.R. Horton took out 77 single-family permits whose value totaled $21.3 million, the association’s data shows.

The value of permits issued for townhouses was $19 million, the data shows.
