160 wordsAll Latest News, Arts and Culture, Business Community EventsThis year’s Jazz, Jewels and Jeans fundraiser for the Oakridge Neighborhood is going virtual because of the coronavirus pandemic, organizers said. The fundraiser, which usually features a jazz band, food and live and silent auctions, is scheduled for 7-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 11. Because of the virtual format, it is being changed and will feature a brief introduction about services provided by Oakridge followed by music by the Max Wellman Quartet, organizers said. Oakridge is also working with a local restaurant where people can order meals to enjoy while listening to the live music. Free-will donations will be accepted; otherwise the event will be free for anyone who wants to tune in. It will be broadcast at YouTube @OakridgeNeighborhood and at Facebook @OakridgeNeighborhood Services. With the move to a virtual format, Oakridge has received 15 corporate sponsors so far, organizers said. Oakridge provides affordable housing, and services such as child care, preschool, after- and out-of-school services, and workforce readiness classes.
