Obama: BP CEO would have been fired on his watch

BP plc’s CEO Tony Hayward should be out of a job for comments he has made about the Deepwater Horizon spill cleanup, according to President Barack Obama.

The president said on NBC-TV’s “Today” show this morning that “(Hayward) wouldn’t be working for me” if Obama were in charge. Hayward has come under fire for trying to downplay the spill, saying the “environmental impact of this disaster is likely to be very, very modest” and that he would like his life back.

Today marks the 50th day that oil has been spilling into the Gulf of Mexico after the Deepwater Horizon exploded, killing 11 workers.

BP was able to partially cap the leak over the weekend and gather 462,000 gallons of oil, according to Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen. Read more.
