The American Institute of Architects reported that the October Architecture Billings Index was 53.1, down slightly from a reading of 53.7 the previous month. The index, which reflects the approximate nine- to 12-month lead time between architecture billings and construction spending, still shows an increase in design services, as any score above 50 indicates an increase in billings. The new projects inquiry index was 58.5, down from a reading of 61.0 the previous month. “There was a slight backslide of the ABI score, but the Midwest is remaining strong with an increase in design services. We expect healthy business conditions for the design and construction industry to persist moving into next year,” said AIA Iowa Executive Director Jessica Reinert.
