However, as demand grew the 30-year-old interior designer decided to turn the Trendy Gardener Design + Plantscapes into a full-time venture.
Frescoln recently opened a 2,000-square-foot showroom at 1905 E. P. True Parkway in West Des Moines.
The showroom features more than 60 varieties of plants, including about 40 subspecies of philodendrons. In addition to the store inventory, more than 350 other plants can be found on the business’s website, www.trendygardenclub.com.
Frescoln also makes his own pottery, and in the coming months will add inventory from local potters as well as lines from Europe.
Among Frescoln’s customer services will be the creation of custom living walls that can include a variety of plants, water features and specialty lighting.
He also plans to offer biweekly classes on the care and propagation of plants. When the showroom is closed, it will be used for yoga classes.
