Des Moines residents are in pretty good financial shape, ranking 37th in a study of the financial habits of residents of 265 cities, according to personal finance website NerdWallet. The study was based on average consumer debt, credit scores, the percentage of income spent on housing cost and the number of homes with second mortgages or home equity loans. Des Moines residents were in good shape, according to NerdWallet, but not the best in the state. Sioux City ranked third nationally, Ottumwa 13th, Cedar Rapids 16th and Waterloo 25th.
