The city of Altoona can finalize phase three of four in a multi-year effort to update the fields and facilities at the Sam Wise Youth Sports Complex with $56,000 in grant funding approved by the Polk County Board of Supervisors on June 18. Phase three involves renovating two softball fields used by the Greater Altoona Girls Softball Association, and two baseball fields used by Southeast Polk Little League. According to a news release, the grant funds will be used toward replacing fencing and concrete pads, installing new roofs for dugouts, and improving drainage on the fields. Funds could also be reallocated into projects at one of Altoona’s other parks, the news release said.
