Prairie Meadows trip to Las Vegas expo comes under question
A story in The Des Moines Register has one Polk County supervisor questioning a trip of Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino board members, employees and spouses to a September conference in Las Vegas. The trip in question was to a conference called the Global Gaming Expo, better known as G2E, which Prairie Meadows has sent individuals to for nearly 15 years, said CEO Gary Palmer. Polk County Supervisor Bob Brownell is quoted in the article as saying, “Many of us … kind of scratch our heads and wonder what the costs are and where would that money go if it weren’t spent on trips like that.” The expo attracts more than 27,000 attendees and has dozens of workshops and hundreds of exhibitor booths, and some officials say it is worthwhile to meet with other industry participants and attend the meetings.
