Kelly Huntsman, CEO of the Des Moines-area Primary Health Care Inc., will retire in 2025, the nonprofit announced in a news release. Huntsman has been with PHC for 36 years, including 24 years as CEO. PHC’s board of directors has launched a national search to find Huntsman’s successor, the release says. “[Huntsman’s] leadership talents are highlighted in the boardroom, in her approach to organizational challenges, and perhaps most importantly, in the hearts and minds of her staff. We are keenly aware of the importance of this role and are focused on identifying the right person to build on the success PHC has achieved under Kelly’s leadership,” Benjamin Bellus, chair of PHC’s board of directors, said in a prepared statement. According to the release, Huntsman’s accomplishments while at PHC include working to ensure access to health care for thousands of under-resourced Central Iowans, leading the transition to managed care and privatized Medicaid, guiding the fusion of PHC and the AIDS Project of Central Iowa and implementing Iowa’s only teaching health center graduate medical education program. Huntsman will be honored at PHC’s annual fall fundraiser, which is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 10. at the Stine Bar in West Des Moines.
