What: Construction of new West Des Moines office building for Sammons Financial Group
Project value: $65 million
General contractor: Weitz Co.
Background and update: Construction is complete of a six-story, 217,000-square-foot headquarters for Sammons Financial Group, the company announced this week.
The new headquarters has “contemporary space and amenities” to attract and retain workers, the company said in a news release.
Construction began in June 2019.
While construction of the building is complete and the initial move-in will take place through the end of the year, the majority of Sammons’ Central Iowa workers will continue to work remotely because of the pandemic, officials said in a news release. Workers will return to the office only when safe to do, officials said.
The new headquarters is on 30 acres that include about a half-mile of walking trails, an acre of wetlands and about 300 trees, according to a fact sheet on the project.
In addition, according to the fact sheet, the building contains:
150 tons of reinforced steel.
14,000 cubic yards of concrete, which could fill four Olympic-sized pools.
1,500 tons of structural steel framing.
One acre of glass.
