Report: 12 percent of Iowa households suffer from food insecurity
A new report shows that 12 percent of households in the state, which equates to about 340,000 Iowans, suffer from food insecurity. The Iowa Policy Project released the report on Tuesday, which showed the average rate of food insecurity from 2008-2010. The 12 percent rate in Iowa was lower than the national rate of 14.5 percent. Food security is defined as having access at all times to enough food for an active, healthy life, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
