Reynolds, Iowa Department of Education award over $3.6 million to expand career academies

Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Education announced in a news release that four Iowa community colleges, including Iowa Valley Community College District in Grinnell, will receive a total of over $3.6 million in competitive grants through the state’s Career Academy Incentive Fund. According to a news release, the grants are intended to provide students with multiple pathways to postsecondary success through partnerships between community colleges, schools, industry and community stakeholders. Iowa Valley Community College District received $1 million to provide additional lab space for the automotive repair technician career academy in Grinnell and support enrollment growth across six area high schools in existing academies, including business administration, health sciences, manufacturing and paraeducator. Eastern Iowa Community College in Muscatine and Iowa Western Community College in Glenwood will also receive a $1 million grant. Iowa Central Community College in Eagle Grove will receive an award of nearly $618,000. The Department of Education may award up to $5 million in grants annually.
