Gov. Kim Reynolds today signed a bill that requires health insurers to cover telehealth services the same as in-person services. Advocates say the measure, House File 2305, will help expand access to telemedicine services in rural communities. The requirement will apply to individual or group insurance policies, contracts, or plans issued or renewed on or before July 1. Keeping care local helps patients avoid traveling, taking time off work or being away from their families, and also expands rural Iowans’ access to health care, particularly in specialty areas such as psychiatry.
