Rose Schroder named Johnston community development director

Rose Schroder has been named the city of Johnston’s community development director. Schroder, who began her new position on Monday, succeeds David Wilwerding, who became Johnston’s assistant city administrator. Schroder received a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners. She spent 16 years in Council Bluffs’ planning department, providing guidance on development and redevelopment projects, managing the review of planning and building permits, and preparing grants. She has also worked in the private sector as a senior urban planner, where she managed city and county comprehensive plans and updates, organized public engagement activities, and handled project budgets. She most recently worked for the city of Pleasant Hill. In Johnston, Schroder will lead a team of 10 full-time employees and provide staff oversight of the Planning & Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment. She will be paid $126,000 annually.
