Science Center to host disaster preparedness panel
In light of the recent crisis in Japan, the Science Center of Iowa at 401 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway will host a panel discussion to help Iowans be more prepared for natural and nuclear disasters. The March 29 edition of Café Scientifique, a monthly adult educational series focused on contemporary science, will feature a number of experts on earthquakes and nuclear disasters: Ken Kerns, associate director of environmental health and safety at Iowa State University; Sri Sritharan, a professor of civil, structural and earthquake engineering at Iowa State University; Rich Singer, project manager of a nuclear facility silting study at MidAmerican Energy Co.; and Leslie Schaffer, executive director of the Central Iowa chapter of the American Red Cross.
