The university owes $17.4 million to Modern Piping Inc. for work the company completed on the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital and Hancher Auditorium, a district court ruled. The ruling upheld an arbitration panel’s $21.5 million award issued in February. The university has since paid some of that award. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office had begun the process of seizing university assets to pay off the debt.
