Sky Factory becomes first net-zero business in Iowa
A Fairfield skylight and window company claims it has become the first net-zero solar powered business in Iowa.
The Sky Factory LC’s building, designed and built by Ideal Energy Inc., generates 54 kilowatts of solar energy from a 3,500-square-foot photovoltaic panel array.
Sky Factory’s solar panels produce 104 percent of the business’s energy needs, according to a release. “Our ‘eco-conscience’ tells us that implementing renewable energy systems is the right thing to do – for the planet, for our children and for ourselves – a necessity for a sustainable future,” said Bill Witherspoon, founder of Sky Factory, in a release. “Sky Factory’s solar array is a manifestation of a consensus-based company and represents our unified desire to develop and act on that inner knowing.”
