State announces $3.5 million to expand before-school, after-school programming

The Iowa Department of Education announced $3.5 million in competitive grants to Iowa schools to create or expand before-and-after school programs. All Iowa schools are eligible to apply for the Learning Beyond the Bell grant, which will offer schools up to $200,000 for staffing, evidence-based math and reading interventions, tutoring, transportation and meals aligned with requirements of the National School Lunch Program. The application deadline for the Learning Beyond the Bell grant is noon on March 29.
