The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt is the state’s program for reuniting lost funds with individuals and businesses in Iowa. Money and other assets can be turned over to the state treasurer’s office after they have been deemed unclaimed after a specific amount of time. The office then holds the funds indefinitely until the rightful owner or heir comes forward. “We appreciate the efforts of the State of Iowa to help get unclaimed funds to their rightful owners,” Cameron Nicholson, CEO of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines, said in a prepared statement. “For a nonprofit organization like the Y, these funds mean we can serve more children, adults and families with programs that enhance the quality of life in our community.”
