State universities report increased enrollment

The three Regent universities released enrollment data for fall of 2010 yesterday. Overall enrollment at Iowa State is a record-breaking 28,682 students, a 2.6 percent increase over the record set last fall. Iowa State set records with the most undergraduates, graduate students, international students and transfer students in its history. The University of Iowa set a university record for the number of incoming freshmen, welcoming 4,557 students. The school also retained a record 86.28 percent of first-time freshmen from last fall. The schools overall enrollment is 30,825, up from 30,328 last fall. The University of Northern Iowa reported an increase in enrollment for the fourth straight year with 13,201 students, up 0.9 percent from last fall. Northern Iowa’s freshmen retention rate was 82.5 percent, also up from 2009.
