The United Way of Central Iowa’s Day of Action is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 13, when hundreds of volunteers will spend their day helping organizations with projects they otherwise may not have the resources to complete. According to officials with the United Way of Central Iowa, there are 365 volunteers registered. They represent 24 companies. There are also 62 opportunities to volunteer with 20 organizations. One of those opportunities is Read to Succeed, which promotes literacy and reading with third graders in Des Moines Public Schools whose reading proficiency is particularly low. Other opportunities include landscaping, park cleanup, painting, a clothing giveaway and delivery of meals. For more information on the opportunities or to register, visit the United Way of Central Iowa’s Day of Action website.
