Through Saturday, “Swirl” lights will be blue in honor of Des Moines hosting two rounds of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. The change is part of the community’s “Paint the Town Blue” initiative, honoring local sponsor Drake University, even though the Bulldogs are playing their first-round game in Albany, N.Y., on Friday. Campbell’s “Swirl” is 28 feet tall, 94 feet wide and uses more than 8,000 LED lights to create moving images. The current image is an abstract view of the Des Moines River.
