The Iowa Department of Revenue is warning taxpayers about a telephone scammer who is making calls that appear to come from the department’s Taxpayer Services phone number of 515-281-3114. The caller claims to be an officer with the department, but is not actually affiliated with it. Anyone who receives a call from someone claiming to be from the department should ask for the person’s name and their supervisor’s name and ask for a return number and offer to call them back. The department is also advising taxpayers to watch out for calls or emails seeking personal information, demanding immediate payment, or threatening arrest, criminal prosecution or account seizure.
