Architectural rendering submitted to the city of West Des Moines for a planned Texas Roadhouse at 6378 Mills Civic Parkway.

Texas Roadhouse, a popular steakhouse chain based in Kentucky, plans to build a 7,100-square-foot restaurant at 6378 Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines, city officials were told this week during a development and planning meeting.

Construction of the restaurant is expected to begin in February with a goal of opening in June, a company spokesperson said. The project is valued at $5.2 million, he said.

Texas Roadhouse has nine other Iowa locations, including one in Urbandale.

Fuddruckers, a hamburger chain, had been located on the Mills Civic Parkway site. It closed in September. The building will be razed and a new restaurant constructed, city officials said.

Dallas County land transaction records show the 1.2-acre lot was sold in July for $2.25 million to Woodsonia Real Estate Inc. of Omaha.

The Texas Roadhouse spokesperson said about 150 people will be hired to work at the West Des Moines restaurant, which is expected to have an annual economic impact of $1.2 million.

This story was updated to include the correct metro location for Texas Roadhouse. A previous version included an incorrect location.
