The main entrance to Des Moines International Airport will be closed to southbound traffic on Fleur Drive from Sunday, July 18, through Wednesday, July 21, for resurfacing. Visitors will need to drive to the airport entrance road just south of the economy parking lot to enter the airport, officials said. Traffic entering from northbound Fleur Drive will not be affected. A map showing the detour can be accessed on the airport’s website at www.dsmairport.com.

Meredith Corp. announced it has completed its acquisition of mobile marketing specialist The Hyperfactory www.thehyperfactory.com. The deal is the latest of several interactive marketing acquisitions made by Meredith over the past four years, and will enhance the capabilities of its integrated marketing unit, the company said in a press release. In July 2009, Meredith took a minority stake in The Hyperfactory, and over the past year the companies have collaborated in mobile marketing projects for clients such as Kraft, Gerber and Acura. The Hyperfactory also developed mobile platforms for Meredith’s Better Homes and Gardens, Parents and Fitness brands.

Iowa State University attracted a record $388.2 million in external funding during the past 12 months, the university announced this morning. The total, which includes all grants, contracts, gifts and cooperative agreements that ISU received during its 2010 fiscal year, represented a 27 percent increase, or $83 million, compared with the record external funding received the previous fiscal year. Iowa State’s largest single source of external funding was the U.S. Department of Energy, at $59.3 million. Of the total funding received, $239.2 million was directed to research projects based on proposals submitted by Iowa State faculty and scientific staff.

Applications for the Iowa Smart Planning: Local Comprehensive Planning Grant Program are now available through the Rebuild Iowa Office and Iowa Department of Economic Development, the agencies announced. Eligible applicants include any of the 85 counties that were declared federal disaster areas as a result of the storms of 2008, as well as any city government within those counties. Up to $50,000 per participating governmental entity may be requested. The $1 million program is funded through Community Development Block Grant funds. Nonprofit organizations have until Aug. 15 to file applications for the Prairie Meadows 2010 Community Betterment Grant program. Applicants must be nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations that have received a 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) designation from the Internal Revenue Service, or must be a unit of a political subdivision, or other such nonprofit organizations organized exclusively for the promotion of social welfare as determined by Prairie Meadows at its sole discretion.
